If you are doing night photography, you can use flash lights to light up the colourful leaves.
I call it painting with light. If you have a ten or twenty second exposure, paint by light by moving the flashlight back and forth all over the area you want to light up. Your night photos will get a unique look to them that you cannot get in a day time picture.
